James Popp


Jim “Popper” Popp” is a dedicated professional who has had a satisfying career in Athletic Training and Physical Therapy.  He is a trusted friend, mentor and role model to student athletes, parents, coaches, and fellow colleagues.

James Popp started his education at UW La Crosse in the fall of 1970.  In 1975, Jim received his Minor in Athletic Training and a Bachelor of Science degree in Adaptive Physical Education from the Minnesota State University in Mankato Minnesota.  He then received a B. S. for Physical Therapy at the University of Health Science/Chicago Medical School in 1977.

Mr. Popp completed an internship in 1973 with the World Football League Jacksonville Sharks.  From 1978-1985 Jim worked with the Green Bay Packers as the Assistant Athletic Trainer. Jim has dedicated the last 24 years in the high school outreach programs with Prevea and Bellin Sports Medicine.

In 2007, Jim was recipient of the Bellin Health V.I.P. People Award, nominated by his fellow colleagues.

Jim was a pioneer for two programs in the Athletic Training Arena.  The N.F.L. N.A.I.R.S. (National Athletic Injury Reporting System) and the Skin Fold Wrestling Program for the WIAA.

Jim’s summer performance enhancement programs have developed the first WIAA state appearances for N.E.W. Lutheran High School in volleyball and basketball.  He helped develop one of the strongest state volleyball workshops for high school and junior high coaches.

Jim’s most satisfying W.A.T.A. accomplishment was being on the Athletic Training Reimbursement Committee.  His lectures emphasized to other Athletic Trainers the importance of reimbursement in using their license to their fullest capacity.
