Scholarships

The WATA is pleased to offer 4 scholarships for students enrolled in an athletic training program. The Founding Fathers Leadership Scholarship, Mueller Professional Scholarships, and the Jeff Oliphant Memorial Post Professional Scholarship are designed to provide support for future athletic trainers.

All student members of the WATA/NATA are encouraged to apply. Students should review the criteria carefully and submit their application. Applications for scholarships are due March 1 of each year. Scholarship descriptions and applications are found below. WATA SCHOLARSHIPS

Founding Fathers Leadership Scholarship

Named for the original founders of the WATA which include Bill Berry, Charlie Crandall, John Eggert, Dick Grenell, Jerry Nauert, and Brad Sherman, this scholarship is for students in their first year of a Wisconsin athletic training program. This is a $1000 award.

CRITERIA TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION

1.  Applicant is required to be a member of the WATA
2. Must currently be enrolled in the FIRST YEAR of a professional athletic training program at a college or university in Wisconsin
3. Conduct themselves in a manner that has brought credit to themselves, their institution, and the ideals and objectives of American higher education
4.  Conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the NATA BOC code of ethical standards

Mueller Professional Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by long time WATA supporter Mueller Sports Medicine. The Mueller Professional Scholarships are awarded to 2 athletic training students who are in their second year or beyond of a Wisconsin professional athletic training program who have distinguished themselves academically and performed with distinction. These two scholarships are each worth $1,000.

Jeff Oliphant Post-Professional Scholarship

Established by the executive board of the WATA in 2006 following the passing of President Jeff Oliphant the previous year, this scholarship is awarded to an athletic trainer who demonstrates enrollment in a professional program at an accredited institution of higher learning. This is a $1,000 award. 

Jeff Oliphant Post-Professional Scholarship Application Criteria

1. Applicant must be a member of the NATA/GLATA and WATA
2. Applicant must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number
3. Applicant must demonstrate enrollment in a master's or doctoral program at an accredited institution of higher learning
4. Applicant must conduct themselves in a manner that bestows credit to themselves, their institution, and the ideals and objectives of American Higher Education
5. Applicant must be a practicing athletic trainer or athletic training educator in Wisconsin pursuing a master's or doctoral degree that will contribute to the athletic training profession
6. Conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the NATA BOC code of ethical standards
