Curt Mueller, R. Ph

Curt Mueller graduated from the University of Wisconsin -Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1957 and immediately began working with Walgreen’s Drug Stores in Chicago. He joined his father’s Prairie du Sac pharmacy as a registered pharmacist in 1959. A power forward for the Badger basketball team from 1952 to 1956, Curt was particularly sensitive to the specific needs of athletes.

Visiting coaches and athletic trainers around Wisconsin, Mueller realized that training room supplies were woefully inadequate. Soon, he coupled his knowledge of sports with pharmacology and established a training room supply company in the basement of his father’s drug store. The year was 1960 and the business, Mueller Chemical Company, was born. Within a few years he changed the name of the company to Mueller Sports Medicine and his lifelong dedication to the cause began. Curt always valued the opinion of the working athletic trainer and relied on their input as he developed his products and services.

In the early 1970s, Curt proved his commitment to the profession of Athletic Training by becoming an early supporter of the Wisconsin Athletic Trainers Association—at times opening his own home for meetings and events of the fledgling organization.

Mueller revolutionized the sports medicine category by being the first company to provide state-of-the-art sports medicine at the retail level, but Mueller never forgot where his business began and he has continued to support the profession of Athletic Training. In 2007, Curt made a first of its kind donation of $300,000 to establish the Mueller Sports Medicine Endowment Fund for Athletic Training. In doing so, Curt made sure that there would be support for athletic trainers in Wisconsin for years to come.

Today, Mueller Sports Medicine is a company dedicated to athletes and their bodies. Mueller’s corporate headquarters in Wisconsin includes a complex of buildings housing research & development, laboratories, manufacturing, three warehouses and a sophisticated shipping operation. Mueller products can be found in 76 countries around the globe. In 2008, Mueller opened its wholly-owned subsidiary, Mueller Japan.

After almost 50 years, Mueller Sports Medicine continues to be a family-owned company. With Curt at the helm as CEO, Mueller as established itself as an industry leader in sports medicine. From the weekend warrior to the college and professional athlete, Mueller Sports Medicine keeps everybody in the game.
